CAPTAIN'S PICK – MARCH
Niagara River Walleye Chase
This is the trip I recommend most during March.
Cold water concentrates walleye in the Niagara River, creating a great opportunity to target good eating-sized fish, with a real chance of encountering a trophy walleye as well.
The river can also produce rainbow trout and lake trout this time of year, adding to the variety of the trip.
If you’re looking to get out on the water early in the season, March is a great time to experience Niagara River fishing.
We’ll head out at first light, slide into the current of the Upper Niagara River, and spend the morning working side by side — feeling the thump of big walleye and chasing the bite on one of the most exciting rivers in the Great Lakes.
We’ll anchor up on the lower Grand River, kick back, and wait for that rod to bend hard — chasing powerful 10–20+ lb channel catfish in a relaxed, scenic setting where the bite can turn calm anticipation into pure adrenaline in seconds.
We’ll head out at first light on Lake Erie, set the spread, and fine-tune the speed and depth for classic Lake Erie walleye — with the chance at a true trophy and the opportunity to bring home some of the best-tasting freshwater fish Ontario has to offer.
We’ll head out on Lake Erie in search of roaming schools of jumbo perch — staying on the move, dialing in the depth, and enjoying steady bites with the chance to bring home some of the best-tasting fish the Great Lakes have to offer.
